In a groundbreaking move towards sustainable electric racing, SKF has recently joined forces with EPWR for a long-term collaboration set to propel the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship (STCC) into an exciting new era.
The partnership with SKF, a leader in cutting-edge performance wheel bearing technology, and EPWR, a trailblazer in sustainable electric racing, marks a significant stride forward for motorsport. SKF’s involvement is expected to elevate the efficiency and reliability of EPWR’s race cars, aligning with their commitment to sustainable racing without compromising quality. The current SKF racing bearing range is expected to be developed further to improve reliability and performance during high speed racing where extreme vibration is experienced and when extra rigidity and low heat generation is required.
EPWR is currently in the process of producing twelve all-new 100% electric touring cars for the 2024 STCC season, and aims to deliver an electrifying racing experience. These electric race cars, boasting 550hp and rear-wheel drive, are constructed on the chassis of renowned manufacturers like BMW, Cupra, Tesla, and Volkswagen. 2024 plans to be STCC’s first fully electric championship, showcasing the most powerful electric touring cars ever to compete.
SKF have over 75 years of involvement in top-class motorsport, and their experise will help push the boundaries of development in the evolving landscape of electric racing. SKF say the collaboration will not only provide valuable insights but also offer opportunities to enhance SKF’s automotive solutions for a broader customer range.
Looking ahead, STCC organisers have now released the calendar for the first season, set to kick off in June 2024. With cars delivered to teams and preparations underway, the series is gearing up for six events across five meetings, promising an electrifying showcase of sustainable electric racing in the vibrant world of motorsport.
